1ST. UAM-EPIC FIELD WORK TRIP (August 31, 2023)

On August 31, 2023, the field trip of the First UAM-EPIC Generation was held. More than 75 students from the Metropolitan Autonomous University-Azcapotzalco, along with professors from different disciplines and units, actively participated in the generation of knowledge to support the Project for the Ecological Rescue of La Piedad Lagoon, in Cuautitlan Izcalli, State of Mexico, under the EPIC model (Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities) and from a transdisciplinary perspective.

With the participation of the three Academic Divisions of the Azcapotzalco Unit (i.e., Social Sciences and Humanities (DCSH), Basic Sciences and Engineering (DCBI), and Sciences and Arts for Design (CYAD)), the students put into practice the knowledge learned in the classrooms for the diagnosis and identification of solutions for the comprehensive rescue of this lagoon. The Teaching Learning Units (UEA) that participated in this experience were:

• Qualitative and Quantitative Data Collection Techniques: The students conducted interviews to gather information about the social, environmental, economic, health, educational, and solidarity economy conditions of the inhabitants surrounding La Piedad Lagoon.
• Analytical Chemistry Laboratory: The students collected and prepared water samples from the Lagoon for subsequent analysis to identify the quality of the water.
• Integral Systems and Architecture: The students carried out several activities to document and disseminate audiovisually the conditions in which the population and ecosystems are found in La Piedad Lagoon through the generation of infographics, documentaries, and photographic inventories.

The results of this first visit were not just presented, but shared with the community at the Colloquium for the Presentation of Results of the UAM-EPIC Rescue of La Piedad Lagoon Project, which was held on February 19, 2024.
